泰戈尔（Rabindranath Tagore,1861-1941），印度作家，诗人，社会活动家，生于地主家庭。曾留学英国。1921年创办国际大学。一生创作丰富。1903年起陆续发表长篇小说《小沙子》、《沉船》、《戈拉》，剧本《摩吉多塔拉》、《邮局》、《红夹竹桃》，诗集《吉檀迦利》、《新月集》、《园丁集》和许多中、短篇小说。获1913年诺贝尔文学奖。

Rabindranath Tagore (1861?1941), one of India?s greatest and most prolific writers of the twentieth century, was awarded the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature. William Radice is a poet, scholar, and translator of Bengali, who has written or edited nearly thirty books. He has translated Tagore?s short stories and his novel The Home and the World for Penguin Classics.
